An animal lover has come forward and said, “I want Candy.”One day after a plea to the public to save her from euthanasia, a dog that survived a shooting in Hallandale Beach is heading to her new home sweet home.7News cameras on Friday afternoon captured the resilient pooch, named Candy, as she was walked to her new owner’s car outside Broward County Animal Care and Adoption Center in Fort Lauderdale.Police said the 2-year-old mix came under fire along the 200 block of Northwest Third Avenue on Sept. 4. School bus monitor charged with assaulting Methuen boy with autism appears in court

A Lawrence woman accused of assaulting a 10-year-old boy with autism while on a bus appeared in court on Friday where she was ordered to be released, but required to wear a GPS monitor.During a dangerousness hearing, prosecutors told the court that bus monitor Nancy Vasquez, 56, regularly abused a 5th grade boy living with autism during his one hour drive to and from school.“Every single day, she does, in fact, abuse this 10-year-old special needs child,” prosecutor Erin McAndrews said. “She hits him with a sandal, she hits him with her cell phone multiple times. Police did not give Black Alabama homeowner time to respond before killing him, attorney says

DECATUR, Ala. (AP) — An attorney representing the family of a Black man who was fatally shot at his home by police said Friday that officers did not give the man time to respond before they opened fire.Steve Perkins, 39, was killed by police Sept. 29 in Decatur in a confrontation that began with a tow truck driver trying to repossess Perkins’ truck. The driver reported that Perkins flashed a gun, so officers accompanied the driver when he went back to the home, police said. The Decatur Police Department said Perkins “turned the gun toward one of the officers,” and they shot him. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency said Perkins had a handgun with a light on it. Lee Merritt, an attorney representing the Perkins family, said video from neighbors’ home security systems indicates that officers accompanied the tow truck driver onto the property but did not announce themselves and opened fire within a second of telling Perkins to get on the ground.
