Former Colombian soldier faces sentencing for plot to kill Haiti’s president

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (WSVN) — Former Colombian soldier and squad leader German Alejandro Rivera Garcia, known as “Colonel Mike,” will be sentenced, Friday. Rivera Garcia was extradited to the United States earlier this year and pleaded guilty last month to conspiring to commit murder or kidnapping and supporting resources resulting in the assassination of Haiti’s late President Jovenel Moïse in 2021.According to The Miami Herald, Rivera Garcia, who was part of the convoy that went to Moïse’s residence, entered his plea after being transferred from a Haitian prison. The charges against him involve conspiracy and supporting a plot to kill Moïse. He now faces the possibility of a life sentence.

Boston University Police issued an advisory after two students reported being sexually assaulted by a person riding a bike on Thursday night.The first incident occurred around 10 p.m. on Bay State Road, where a student reported they were approached on the sidewalk by a person on a bike who touched them inappropriately, according to the advisory. The suspect was described as a white male riding dark-colored bicycle who was wearing blue jeans and either a dark cap or a hooded sweatshirt.Then, around 11 p.m., a student on the Silber Footbridge to the Charles River Esplanade said they were approached by a person on a bike who touched them inappropriately. Vermont police say bodies found off rural Vermont road are those of 2 missing Massachusetts men

(AP) — Autopsies have confirmed that the two bodies found in a wooded area off a rural road in northern Vermont are those of two missing Massachusetts men who were shot to death, Vermont State Police said Thursday.Police found the bodies of 21-year-olds Jahim Solomon, of Pittsfield, and Eric White, of Chicopee, on Wednesday in a wooded area in Eden. Autopsies performed Thursday determined that Solomon died of multiple gunshot wounds to the head and White died of a single gunshot wound to the head, police said.State police said they continue to follow up on leads in the case and said tips from the public are an important part of the investigation. A man has been rushed to a trauma centre after he was struck by a vehicle near the Scarborough and Markham border on Friday.Toronto police were called to the Steeles Avenue East and McCowan Road area around 7:15 a.m. Officers said a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle.
