TOKYO (AP) — Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida will make a brief visit to the tsunami-wrecked Fukushima nuclear plant on Sunday to highlight the safety of an impending release of treated radioactive wastewater into the Pacific Ocean, a divisive plan that his government wants to start soon despite protests at home and abroad.His trip comes hours after he returned home Saturday from a summit with U.S. and South Korean leaders at the American presidential retreat of Camp David. Man seriously injured in Petite Lake water craft crash

LAKE COUNTY, Ill. — A man is in the hospital with serious injuries after a water craft crash on a lake near Antioch Saturday afternoon, according to the Lake County Sheriff's Office (LCSO).LCSO officials said their marine unit was called to Petite Lake around 3:10 p.m. for a boat crash with injuries.When deputies arrived, they found a damaged Yamaha Wave Runner, which had struck a Hurricane Deck boat. Preliminary investigation by the LCSO showed the deck boat, operated by a 53-year-old man from Volo, was travelling south out of the Long Channel, entering Petite Lake, when a Yamaha Wave Runner travelling west across Petite Lake hit the front of the deck boat.The operator of the Wave Runner, a 53-year-old man from Crystal Lake, was thrown from the Wave Runner, facedown into the water on impact, but was wearing a life jacket and quickly removed from the water by a good Samaritan, the LCSO said.Deputies said the Wave Runner operator was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libert...

Police investigating after teen drowns at New Braunfels Tube Chute

NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas (KXAN) -- The New Braunfels Police Department is investigating after a 16-year-old drowned at the New Braunfels Tube Chute, the City of New Braunfels said in a news release Saturday.Officers responded at approximately 3 p.m. to the New Braunfels Tube Chute for a report of a missing person, the release said. River patrol officers were on the scene immediately and began searching for the missing 16-year-old, who officials said was swimming above the Tube Chute Dam with family.Then, at approximately 5:20 p.m., the teen was discovered by other people at the river in the area just above the Tube Chute Dam. Those bystanders pulled the teen from the water, called 911 and started CPR until paramedics with the New Braunfels Fire Department arrived on the scene, the release said.The teen was taken to Christus New Braunfels Hospital where he was pronounced dead. O.C. wildlife center helps evacuate animals ahead of Hurricane Hilary

A Huntington Beach wildlife center successfully evacuated 1,000 animals to local shelters on Saturday night ahead of Hurricane Hilary.The Wetlands and Wildlife Care Center in Huntington Beach is located near the shore and workers are concerned that the impending storm and potential storm surge will flood the facility. Earlier on Saturday, the wildlife center was asking local truck owners to help transport the animals but since all animals have been safely moved, no truck owners' assistance is needed.
