More than 50,000 without power as wind-whipped storm rolls through

Heavy rain and high winds swept through the Northeast on Monday for the second time in a week, spurring flood warnings, electricity outages, flight cancellations and school closings.The National Weather Service predicted up to 5 inches  of rain in some parts of the region. More than 245,000 power outages were reported from Pennsylvania to New York to New England, with numerous reports of trees falling on power lines. Wind gusts of up to 60 mph were forecast for the southeast New England coast, the Weather Service said.In Massachusetts, more than  54,000 homes were without power according to the state’s emergency services outage map. COPA investigating shooting involving off-duty officer

CHICAGO — Police are investigating a shooting involving a Chicago off-duty officer.According to police, the incident happened just before 11 p.m. Sunday near the 7900 block of South Sacramento in the Ashburn neighborhood.Police said an off-duty officer discharged their weapon during an attempted carjacking.No one was injured during the shooting. It is unclear how many shots the off-duty officer fired.No one is in custody.Investigators are working to determine the exact details of the shooting.The Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) is investigating the incident. The officer involved will be placed on routine administrative leave for 30 days.
