Officers shoot man in north St. Louis

ST. LOUIS - Police officers shot a man Wednesday afternoon in north St. Louis.According to Sgt. Charles Wall, a spokesman for the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, the shooting happened around 2 p.m. in the 4200 block of Linton Avenue, located in the Fairgrounds neighborhood. Multiple people quit within hours at Jennings City Hall Wall said the man who was shot is conscious and breathing. No officers were hurt in the incident.Police have not yet disclosed what led up to the shooting or what kind of injuries the wounded man might have suffered.This is a developing story. Victim identified in fatal Midtown shooting near SLU campus

ST. LOUIS - Homicide detectives with the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department say the victim and suspect in Tuesday’s fatal shooting in Midtown knew each other.Police identified the victim as Jaylen French of Florissant. French was shot just before 2 p.m. near Lindell Boulevard and Spring Avenue, feet away from the northern edge of St. Louis University’s campus. French was 25.The suspect, identified only as a 19-year-old man, was found shot in the 3700 block of Lindell. He was taken to a hospital and is said to be in critical condition as of Tuesday evening.Neither man is affiliated with the university.“It appears at this time that the individuals were known to each other and the incident was the result of a dispute,” St. Louis police Captain Christi Marks said. “There was one firearm involved in the incident, and at some point there was a struggle over the firearm, which resulted in the suspect being shot.” Close Thanks for signing up! JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - Officials have launched an investigation into a recent University of Missouri System data breach, which has impacted thousands of organizations and led to some personal data being compromised. The data breach involves a file transfer software called MOVEit, used to share large files between organizations worldwide. St. Charles reopens water treatment plant after ammonia-drop concerns

ST. CHARLES, Mo. - Days after shutting down its water treatment plant over ammonia concerns, the City of St. Charles has reopened the plant and is once again providing drinking water to residents. St. Charles city officials shut down the Elm Point Water Treatment Plant last weekend when its last operational well experienced "a drop in the free level of ammonia in raw water." Free ammonia is essential because it serves as the primary disinfectant in St. Charles’ water system. FBI recovers 27 sex trafficking victims in Colorado, including 8 juveniles

The FBI along with local, state, and federal law enforcement partners have recovered multiple victims of sex trafficking, including a 16-year-old girl who was being trafficked by her father in exchange for drugs, in a recent coordinated campaign.Another victim, a minor, had been reported missing by her foster family and was found in a hotel with a known trafficker, according to an FBI news release.The operation in Colorado recovered eight juveniles and 19 adults from sex trafficking, according to a release on a recent nationwide effort, Operation Cross Country.More than 40 agencies and organizations in Colorado participated in the recent coordinated nationwide enforcement effort. Denver Archdiocese sues Colorado over right to exclude LGBTQ people from universal preschool

The Denver Catholic Archdiocese along with two of its parishes is suing the state alleging their First Amendment rights are violated because their desire to exclude LGBTQ parents, staff and kids from Archdiocesan preschools keeps them from participating in Colorado’s new universal preschool program.The program is intended to provide every child 15 hours per week of state-funded preschool in the year before they are eligible for kindergarten. Air quality regulators have ordered a private landfill in Castaic to take immediate steps to reduce a putrid odor that has prompted more than a thousand complaints from nearby residents.On Tuesday, the South Coast Air Quality Management District sent an “order of abatement” to the owners of the Chiquita Canyon Landfill, which is located just south of the Val Verde community and west of Six Flags Magic Mountain.South Coast AQMD says the agency began receiving a large number of odor complaints in May.Investigators determined the stench was the result of elevated levels of sulfur, specifically dimethyl sulfide, in landfill gas emissions which “its gas treatment system is not designed to remove,” officials said.Chiquita Canyon Landfill in Castaic, California.
